Learn to Sing the Right Way
Keeping your voice in
shape is the most important thing for a singer. After all,
your voice is your instrument, and fine tuning it regularly will
ensure that you get the best performance every time you sing.
If you haven't sung
regularly before, or are getting back into singing, you need to
gradually build up your voice, practising twenty minutes a day,
three to four times a week. Singing too little will not be
beneficial. However, too much singing and training can
also weaken the voice. Therefore, it is important to
maintain the right balance - just like training your body in the
gym. Your voice is a muscle, just like any other.

Breathing
Correct breathing is the
fundamental aspect of any singers training. The four steps
we work on are:
Posture - it is
important to ensure that you are standing correctly and relaxed.
Inhalation - breathing in by expanding your waistline
(not lifting your shoulders)
Exhalation - keeping your abdominal muscles firm.
Keeping the rib cage open while exhaling - if the chest
collapses, so does the sound!

What a Singing Lesson
Entails
A complete 45 minute vocal
workout should contain the following components:
Warm-up - both a
physical and vocal warm-up.
Technical work - this generally forms the main content of
the lesson.
Performing of a song - you may have a song you would like
to work on or your coach may choose a song for you to work on
your technique.
Cool Down - again, like being at the gym, exercises to
cool down will ensure that you don't strain your vocal chords
after your lesson.
